Dragon Age The Veilguard flops: sales are half EA's expectations
Electronic Arts has revised its revenue forecast for the current fiscal year. The reason is the low sales of key releases, including Dragon Age The Veilguard and EA SPORTS FC 25.
During the quarter, Dragon Age The Veilguard sold only 1.5 million copies, although about 3 million were expected. This is the first time that EA has revealed the game's true sales figures. Analysts expected weak results even earlier: according to data, in Europe interest in the new part of Dragon Age was even lower than in the failed Star Wars Outlaws.
Low sales also affected support for the game. EA released several patches, but soon moved the development team to other projects. No more expansions are planned for The Veilguard.
Amid the weak results, EA forecast quarterly revenue of $1.883 billion, down from its previous estimate of $1.875 billion to $2.025 billion. The company promises to publish the full report for the third quarter on February 4.
If the situation does not change, Electronic Arts will end the fiscal year with losses and total sales of $7–7.15 billion.
