In the USA they said that FitGirl repacks cause serious damage to the gaming industry
The Entertainment Software Association of America (ESA), which represents companies such as Electronic Arts, Epic Games, Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony and Ubisoft, recently updated its blacklist of pirated sites. And new names appeared there.
This time the well-known FitGirl-Repacks was included in the blacklist. This site, familiar to many gamers, specializes in compressed versions of games. For those who don't know, FitGirl takes games and "packages" them so they take up less space. Convenient, right? But copyright holders don’t think so.
According to the ESA, in July of this year, FitGirl-Repacks was visited as many as 22 million times. It's no wonder game companies are worried. They complain that the site ignores requests to remove pirated content. However, it has not yet been possible to find who is behind FitGirl.
But FitGirl is not the only headache for ESA. The list also included the Dodi-Repacks website. He is younger and smaller, but he also managed to annoy gaming companies. ESA notes that Dodi also does not respond to requests to remove illegal content.
In addition, ESA drew attention to sites selling cheats and game accounts without permission. For example, cosmocheats.com and eldorado.gg were blacklisted. Although they are not as big as FitGirl, gaming companies consider them a serious threat.
What's next? ESA hopes that the US government will take their complaints into account when formulating copyright policies. Well, for now we can just watch this struggle.
