Valve: SteamOS does not compete with Windows, but offers an alternative

Steam Deck designer and developer Pierre-Loup Griffet spoke in an interview with PC Gamer about the goals of developing SteamOS and its place in the gaming ecosystem. According to Griffe, Valve is not trying to compete with Windows or create a replacement for it. The main goal of SteamOS is to provide users with an alternative with different priorities, especially in the field of gaming devices.

The system is developed with an emphasis on compatibility with various chipsets and devices. Valve actively uses open technologies that meet its standards to make the platform accessible to developers and users.

The company is currently focused on portable devices such as the Steam Deck, but has not ruled out the possibility of reviving the concept of gaming PCs on based on SteamOS (Steam Machines) in the future.

Griffe emphasized that SteamOS is not a commercial project aimed at capturing the market, but rather a way to offer more choice to users and support the PC ecosystem.
