Support for same-sex relationships and marriage: the developers of Crusader Kings 3 talked about future changes to the game
Last month, the Crusader Kings 3 update accidentally broke a popular loophole that allowed same-sex concubines to be modded. Paradox is now aiming to fix this with a big mod update, and plans to support proper same-sex marriage mods in a later update.
In a recent dev diary, Paradox detailed a number of modifications that will be made in the upcoming patch. There is a good list of technical changes that may be of interest to modders, but a special one of interest are the changes to how the game supports potential queer relationship mods.
"Prior to version 1.3, same-sex cohabitation could be changed inadvertently, but that could cause a lot of bugs," Paradox explained. "In version 1.3, we explicitly restricted this in the code as part of the concubine bug fix, believing it was not possible at all. We've since made changes to properly support same-sex concubinage and these will be other modding improvements in 1.3.X"
Paradox explains that support for same-sex marriage is planned for the upcoming 1.4 update - work needed to ensure that such a fundamental change doesn't break the game well beyond the planned 1.3.X update.
