The beginning of the end? Ubisoft suddenly closed one of its studios
After a difficult period, it seemed that Ubisoft finally enters the light lane. The successful release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows and a profitable Tencent deal instilled the hope that the French publisher managed to turn the series of failures. However, the reality was not so rainbow: it became known that Ubisoft decided to close its internal studio in the UK - Ubisoft Leamington.
This became known from the official statement published on social networks. Ubisoft Leamington has worked under the publisher’s brand since 2017 and took part in the creation of The Division, The Division 2 and Far Cry 5. Now its doors are closed, and many employees are left without work.
Along with this, Ubisoft has announced that the studio account in social networks will be combined with Ubisoft Reflections, another British team that will continue to work on the company's projects.
The decision to close the studio caused a wave of discussions in the industry. Former employees note that Ubisoft Leamington was a unique team, and its loss is a blow not only for the company, but also for the entire gaming industry in the region.
, against the background of this news, is it a part of the standard restructuring aimed at increasing the efficiency of Ubisoft, or does the company continue to lose position? Perhaps these measures will help the publisher focus on key projects and rejoice players again with high -quality releases. However, it is possible that this is only a continuation of the crisis, which has been going on for more than a year.
