The storyline of the new game sends the main character to Siberia and a mysterious "oasis". She has to enter into a confrontation with a mysterious organization calling itself Trinity. In addition to walking upright, Lara will also have to fight with animals, including bears. During gameplay, Lara can hunt, but keep in mind that some animals can only be found after dark, or vice versa – day. During snow storms, animals, of course, will hide in holes. Lara, like a real hunter, swims well under water, heals with all sorts of herbs and roots, makes arrows and much more. Drizzle and fog will worsen visibility not only for the main character, but also for her opponents. To create equipment, Lara will collect a variety of resources, from which, in addition to the above, she will be able to construct traps, bows and much more – up to Molotov cocktails. The combat system is built on tactical maneuvers (you need to distract opponents and much more) – there are no stealth action elements.

In comparison with the previous parts of the game, in this one - the number and complexity of puzzles increases. Noah Hughes, the creative director of the project, says that the game's creators decided to provide players with many challenges and challenges that can be solved by interacting with various elements of the system. Solving puzzles will not be quick, however, by performing a certain combination of actions, you can come to the final – Hughes says. Among the many tasks, they will also meet the decoding of mysterious inscriptions. Some puzzles – the same as in the previous series. It is worth saying that the creators of the game perfectly combined puzzles and realistic environments. The world of Rise of the Tomb Raider consists of locations that are several times larger than in the previous part of the game.
