New York Times: The era of diversity in Hollywood is coming to an end - such films are no longer interesting to audiences
The New York Times published an article in which it touched on the topic of the so-called “age of diversity” in Hollywood.
NYT believes that the emphasis on so-called "diversity" is coming to an end in Hollywood. As an example, the author cites the film “Black Panther,” which in 2018 grossed a huge box office of $1.3 billion. However, now such films are increasingly showing box office failures, essentially turning into a niche genre.
Unlike previous eras, which were dedicated to Westerns/mafia/action films, the era of diversity will not leave anything good behind: film studios in an attempt to diversify films with representatives of different races and nationalities, they essentially made such films bland and unmemorable, since they often added characters to the films at the expense of the logic of the plot. For example, Captain Marvel, who is one of the most powerful characters in the MCU, but ultimately played almost no important role in the films and was added only for show.
According to the NYT, the era of diversity is only a temporary phenomenon, who doesn't have much time left. However, unlike Westerns, films about the mafia or action films, there are not so many worthy representatives of this era, unlike the films of Sergio Leone, Francis F. Coppola / Martin Scorsese or action films with Schwarzenegger / Stallone / Van Damme.
