Variety reports that major Hollywood film studios are planning a number of changes to their approach to recruiting focus groups*. It is reported that now the studios plan to involve not strangers in focus groups, but fans of franchises.

*Focus group - viewers who evaluate the quality of the film during its development and share their impressions of what they saw with the creators.

In fact, with this action, Hollywood studios admitted their capitulation to the fandoms of famous franchises, with which they have had extremely tense relations in recent years.

Perhaps most of all, the decision to involve fans in focus groups influenced by the failures of a number of recent projects from Disney, Amazon and other major studios. Particularly loud was the failure of the Star Wars: Acolyte series, which cost Disney several hundred million dollars, while fans of the franchise refused to watch the series and destroyed its rating on all film aggregators, while its creators, when producing the series, believed that they say “everything is fine.”

We can only hope that the studios will really begin to listen to the focus groups of fans regarding inappropriate casting: for example, viewers criticized the creators of the series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” for this, “ ;House of the Dragon and a number of other franchises, where for the sake of diversity and compliance with the DEI rating, studios were ready to give a damn about the logic of what was happening, violating the canon and logic of the franchises.
