Dying fan will be allowed to play Borderlands 4 before release
Gearbox has once again shown concern for its loyal fans by promising to give 37-year-old Caleb McAlpine, who suffers from terminal cancer, the opportunity to play Borderlands 4 ahead of time. Caleb, having learned that he had 7 to 12 months to live, asked players on Reddit to contact the developers so as not to miss the chance to play the long-awaited game.
Despite hopes for successful chemotherapy, which may to extend his life just a couple of years, Caleb doesn't have much time left. Shortly after his post, the head of Gearbox, Randy Pitchford, contacted him, promising that he would do everything possible to fulfill his wish. “Caleb and I are now communicating via email and doing everything we can to make this finally happen,” said Pitchford.
This isn’t the first time Gearbox has hosted an event like this. In 2019, the company gave a copy of Borderlands 3 shortly before release to a 26-year-old fan who also suffered from cancer. In memory of him, a unique cannon named in his honor appeared in the game.
