The BBC reported that actress Maggie Smith, the star of the Harry Potter films in which she played the role of Professor Minerva McGonagall, passed away today. At the time of her death, Maggie Smith was 89 years old.
Smith is also the winner of two Oscar awards, which she received for Best Supporting Actress in the film "California Hotel" and best role in the film “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.” In total, the actress has more than 100 roles in various films and TV series.
During her life, the actress twice struggled with serious illnesses: in 1988, doctors discovered she had diffuse toxic goiter. After that, she underwent radiation therapy and underwent surgery.
In 2007, Maggie Smith suffered breast cancer, which overtook her during the filming of the sixth part of Harry Potter, but, despite everything, the actress did not interrupt her participation in filming and was able to overcome the disease.
The actress is survived by two sons and five grandchildren.
