"The Real Gordon Freeman" left Valve after more than 25 years
Greg Coomer, a Valve veteran and legendary developer, has left the company after more than 25 years. Changes in his LinkedIn profile were noticed by Reddit users, after which this news quickly spread across the network.
Coomer is an iconic figure for Valve. He joined the company in 1997, becoming part of the team that worked on iconic games such as Half-Life, Portal and Left 4 Dead. It is noteworthy that Coomer's appearance was partially used to create the image of Gordon Freeman in Half-Life 2, for which he received the nickname "the real Gordon Freeman."
In addition, Coomer made a significant contribution to the creation of the Steam Deck, which has become one of Valve's key projects in recent years. He also helped come up with the name of the company, which emphasizes his fundamental role in its development.
Nothing is yet known about the developer’s future plans. Some speculate that Kumer could have been lured away by Microsoft, which is actively working on its own portable console.
Recall that Half-Life 2, in the creation of which Kumer took part, is now available for free on Steam. The promotion will end today at 21:00 Moscow time, so everyone has a chance to pick up this legendary game.
