The studio of the creator of Just Cause presented the first screenshots of its GTA-style game in the open world

The Swedish studio Liquid Swords, founded by Christopher Sundberg, the former head of Avalanche Studios, has shared the first screenshots of its new single-player open-world action RPG, reminiscent of the GTA series in style. The screenshots, confirmed as real by the studio's official X account, showed an impressive level of detail thanks to Unreal Engine 5. This engine is different from Avalanche's Apex engine, which was used to develop Just Cause, Mad Max and Rage 2.

Technical Director Fredrik Lönn explained the choice of engine: “Historically, own engines are an ideal solution, as Avalanche did for Just Cause 1. Today the situation is different. We chose Unreal Engine 5 for its proven quality and excellent integration with other programs, which is important for creating large open-world games."

Since founding the studio in December 2020, Sundberg has been committed to improving game development processes: “Liquid Swords is the realization of an ambition to refocus the way we approach development, creativity and teamwork.” In 2022, NetEase Games invested in the studio, supporting its ambitious plans.
